Brancusi's interest in childhood as a subject reveals all his modernity.
Constantin Brancusi made several children's heads between 1906 and 1907. Children had been the focus of unprecedented interest since the late 19th century : many exhibitions of children's art were held in Europe and in New York. while Maria Montessori. a doctor and teacher. reconsidered teaching methods and Sigmund Freud questioned infantile sexuality. At the same time, Brancusi discovered the sculptures of Medardo Rosso, who was also very interested in the subject of childhood, at the Salons d'Automne of 1904 and 1906.
